Joe Powell – In Talks

I’ve always liked Joe Powell. He was heavily linked with us when Anthony Scully signed, and there was speculation we’d get a two-for-one deal with West Ham. Instead, Powell went to Burton and has bagged nine goals in 49 League One matches. He’s in talks with Burton over a new deal, and at 23 if we were to pinch him, which there’s no suggestion we are considering, it would cost us a fee. I think it could be worth it.

Maybe my admiration for Powell comes from his goals record against us; he got a goal and an assist as we lost 2-1 to them at our place earlier this season, and he bagged both as we beat them 3-2 in the final game before Covid. He’s got 18 goals and 14 assists for the Brewers in two-and-a-half seasons from midfield, and I think he would make a great attacking eight for us, especially if Mark Kennedy goes 4-1-4-1. He could even partner his old West Ham U23 teammate Scully.
