Tom Carroll – Free Agent

Position – Central Midfield

Top of our shopping list has to be a holding midfielder, someone who has experience in the game, who can be flexible in terms of sitting deep or coming forward and who can help lift younger players during tough times. Tom Carroll, recently released by Ipswich, fits the bill. He’s the former Spurs man who played 17 times for England Under 21s and played 37 games for Swansea in the Premier League in 2017/18.

I don’t think this would come off, Carroll will be on a decent wage and is likely to spring up at a top-end League One club like Sheffield Wednesday, but with 176 games in the top two divisions, he certainly has the experience we need. He could help develop the young players, but wouldn’t offer any sell-on value.
