Ten Free Agents That Could Still Make a League One Move This Season

Marvin Johnson

A winger or wing-back with a long EFL career behind him, Marvin Johnson is currently without a club after a short-term spell at Port Vale ended in January 2026. He is 35 and has played across non-League, League One, the Championship and the Scottish Premiership, having started out with Solihull Moors, Romulus and Kidderminster Harriers before earning a move into the professional game. His form at Kidderminster led to a transfer to Motherwell in 2015, where he featured regularly in the Scottish Premiership and played a key role in their relegation play-off victory over Rangers.

Johnson returned to England with Oxford United in 2016, spending a season in League One before a move to Middlesbrough for a fee reported to be around £2.5 million. He later gained Championship promotion experience during a loan spell at Sheffield United, then went on to make more than 150 league appearances for Sheffield Wednesday between 2021 and 2025, including their League One play-off promotion in 2023. His most recent appearances came with Port Vale during the first half of the 2025–26 season, following which he became a free agent.
