Ten Free Agents That Could Still Make a League One Move This Season

Jordan Thorniley

A left-sided centre-back by trade, Jordan Thorniley has spent his career moving steadily through the EFL after coming through the youth ranks at Everton. He progressed to captain the club’s Under-18 side but did not make a senior appearance, instead gaining his first taste of men’s football on loan at Stockport County before being released. A move to Sheffield Wednesday followed, where he made his Championship debut and accumulated appearances across several seasons, alongside a League Two loan at Accrington Stanley that provided a regular run of games.

In January 2020 he joined Blackpool, where he enjoyed his most consistent spell, featuring regularly over three seasons and scoring his first senior goal during the 2022–23 campaign. Thorniley later returned to Oxford United, initially on loan and then on a permanent deal, before spending part of the 2025–26 season on loan at Northampton Town. His Oxford contract was ended by mutual consent in February 2026, leaving him available after experience across the Championship, League One, League Two and the National League.
