Matt Phillips
A wide player capable of operating across the front line or as a wing-back, Matt Phillips is a free agent after leaving Oxford United by mutual consent in February 2026. He is 34 and has spent the bulk of his senior career in the Championship and Premier League, having first broken through at Wycombe Wanderers, where he made more than 75 league appearances as a teenager. A move to Blackpool followed, including a prolific loan spell at Sheffield United in 2011 where he scored six goals in six games, before joining Queens Park Rangers in 2013 and featuring in both Championship and Premier League campaigns.
Phillips’ longest and most settled spell came at West Bromwich Albion, where he played eight seasons between 2016 and 2024, making over 230 league appearances and contributing regularly in goals and assists across the Premier League and Championship. After leaving West Brom, he joined Oxford United ahead of the 2024–25 season, making appearances in league and cup competition before his contract was terminated midway through the 2025–26 campaign. At international level, he represented England at youth level before switching allegiance to Scotland, earning 16 senior caps between 2012 and 2019.
