4. Telford 2-1 Imps 84/85
Telford’s FA Cup run in 1984/85 is legendary – they wound up in the Fifth Round and played Everton at Goodison Park. It should have been us, though. Darwing 1-1 in the first game, we missed a last-minute penalty to ensure a replay at the Bucks Head.
The Conference team didn’t need a second invite, and we went down 2-1 at their place, in a poor season for City. Colin Murphy left, we only just finished outside the bottom four, and back-to-back relegations beckoned, with Telford waiting in the GMVC.
Remember, in those days, almost all non-league teams were part-time, making defeats against them even more embarrassing than today.
