9. Altrincham 3-2 Imps 88/89
Long before we beat Altrincham to set up a tie with Oldham, they dealt us a blow. We’d just come up from the GM Vauxhall Conference, and had thrashed them 5-0 at the Bank earlier in the year. As a league side (and on my birthday) cup success was expected.
It was expected on 77 minutes as we led them 2-1, with Darren Davis and Mark Sertori on hand to score. 13 minutes later, City had lost 3-2. Seven days later, we faced Halifax Town at the Bank, winning. 2-1.
Altricnham’s reward? A home time with Halifax Town, which they lost 3-0.
