#5 – Shay McCartan (2018–19)

While not the flashiest name, Shay McCartan was vital in the League Two title-winning season. Arriving on loan from Bradford, he slotted into Danny Cowley’s system like he’d always been there. Seven goals in 43 appearances doesn’t tell the whole story — McCartan scored screamers, including a thunderous volley against Swindon.
He was consistent, hard-working, and integrated seamlessly into the side. Unlike many loanees, he felt like ‘one of our own’ — no talk of recall, no drama. He simply got on with the job, and his contribution to that promotion cannot be overstated.
