Ten Realistic Loan Signings For Lincoln City

George Hirst (Leicester City)

Owls' anguish over George Hirst could spread far and wide | Sheffield Wednesday | The Guardian

Fans of a certain age will know all about Hirst’s Dad David, a phenomenal goalscorer for Sheffield Wednesday in the late eighties and early nineties. Hirst was at Wednesday too, but that fell apart not long after his debut after he rejected a new contract. He looked set to join Man Utd, but instead wound up at OH Leuven. After one year in Belgium, he came back to the UK and signed for Leicester City, before joining Rotherham last season.

Now, here’s the thing – he didn’t do well at Rotherham. Hirst is 22 now and failed to score during his time at the New York Stadium. His England youth honours, up to Under 20 level, look a long way away and he desperately needs a move that will rejuvenate his career. Where better than League One, a level he should be competent at, and a club like Lincoln City, with a solid reputation of turning potential into ability? At 6ft 3in, Hirst cuts an imposing figure, maybe giving us the number nine alternative to Tom Hopper we lacked all season.
