Lincoln City Players Who Featured In the UEFA Cup

Malcolm Dunkley

UEFA Cup (1987/88)

English striker Malcolm Dunkley played in the 1987/88 UEFA Cup for Finnish side Lahti, featuring in both legs of their tie against French giants Marseille. It was a remarkable moment for a player who had moved abroad to continue his career after spells in the lower leagues of English football.

Dunkley had previously spent some of the 1988/89 season with Lincoln, making a modest impact in front of goal with four in nine outings. Sadly, he passed away from a heart attack at age 44 in 2005.

Peter Daniel

UEFA Cup (1980)

Peter Daniel could be on both the managers’ and players’ lists (if I do a manager’s one). He enjoyed a respectable professional career, notably with Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It was with Wolves that he made his sole European club competition appearance, coming in the 1980–81 Cup. Daniel featured in the second leg of their second-round tie against PSV Eindhoven. Although Wolves were knocked out on aggregate, the experience added a European highlight to his CV.

Later in his career, Daniel joined the Imps, becoming player-manager in 1987 during a challenging period for the club. He was unable to prevent their slide into the GM Vauxhall Conference. After that, he moved to Burnley, who stayed up at our expense, as a player.
