Damn you, Early Man Utd. Another unique result, another humbling in the north west. I blame the train journey (trust me, it gets worse).

We didn’t have a good record against the old United – this defeat was the worst that season, but we lost 6-1 when they visited us later in the season. We also lost 7-2 against Sheffield Wednesday, as well as 6-1 at Grimsby and Burton Swifts.

That seems damning, with just 22 games in the division, but we still weren’t bottom – Grimsby, Walsall Town Swifts and Birmingham St Georges were all worse than us. Wow.
