9-3 v Luton Town, Dec 18th, 1897

We’ve had some freak results against Luton, including the infamous Billy Cobb hattrick game, but this one is unique, at least in peacetime (we beat Doncaster 9-3 on December 27th, 1941, in the war league).

1897 wasn’t a great time to be a City fan – we only kept two clean sheets all season, shipping 82 goals in just 30 matches.

Frustratingly, we’d only played Luton two weeks earlier, winning 4-2.
