The Lincoln City Results That Have Only Happened Once

13-0 v Peterborough Town Oct 12th, 1895

Whilst our record Football League win is 11-1, our actual record win is 13-0 against Peterborough (not United, an earlier incarnation). Despite us being in Division Two, we had to get through qualifying rounds – we beat Peterborough 13-0, then Worksop 3-0, before losing to Grimsby in the third qualifying round. Perhaps that’s why this isn’t often referred to as our record win.

Quite how the Football League decided to give Notts County, Darwen, Burton Wanderers, Liverpool, Newton Heath and Woolwich Arsenal a bye to the First Round but made us fight through the qualifiers, I don’t know. Unique format, unique result.

I do like that we offered them a big sum to come to our place instead, but they remained firm.
