15th September – Run 12 – 5.2 miles (26.52m to go)
Sadly, time got the better of me yesterday, with the podcast to record and the dentist poking around in my mouth, so today, I had to up the ante. That meant the longest run of my 60-mile challenge.
My plan was to run to Wragby tomorrow, 10 miles away, as a symbolic gesture as I’m going to an event in aid of CALM at the Adam and Eve. I thought it would be a nice way to make a bit of a statement, but I fear time would get the better of me. I’d need to run from my house at about 7 am to get to Wragby, shower at dads, have breakfast, and get the bus into Lincoln for a beer in the Treaty with Matt at 12:30. With that in mind, I churned out five miles today.
There’s no morale to today’s run diary, I’m afraid. I guess if anything, I’d just say that whenever you’re on a journey, be it this running project of mine, or your own projects designed to stop your mind from dragging you down, there are good days and bad days. Today, in terms of running, was a good day for me. Had it not been for the hills all around, I could have easily churned out a couple more miles. Since I started this, I’ve felt my legs getting stronger, my lung capacity seemingly improving.
All journeys of self-improvement take time to develop, so please remember that if you’ve been fighting off your demons and feeling you’re not making progress. It’s like hair growth I guess – you don’t see your hair growing when you look in the mirror, but if you look one week and again two weeks later, it’s grown.
