1997
This is one I don’t recall, but it’s well worth revisiting. it seems we struggled to win at Meadow Lane for many years, but the year we won promotion, we had a bit of a ding-dong with Notts County.
I’m sure some of you will remember it, but according to the report, Sam Allardyce was their manager, and he surrounded the referee with his players after we grabbed a late winner through Phil Stant. They felt the player was offside, but the referee disagreed.
Now, I don’t recall this, but apparently, a Notts County supporter then ran onto the pitch and rugby-tackled the referee before being arrested. The headline is amusing – a John Beck team keeping their cool is not something I recall happening too often.
Former Imp Devon White was sent off for a second bookable offence after levelling the scores, and there were ten bookings in total, six for us.
Sounds like quite a game.
