Possible Signing This Week: Who Might Be In The Frame?

Max Clayton

Max Clayton is a 25-year-old centre forward who has previously played for Crewe, Bolton and Blackpool, as well as England up to Under 19 level. Whilst at Crewe, he was so highly-rated that Liverpool tried to poach him for £1m, which left Dario Gradi fuming.

He’s been a free agent since the summer, having left Blackpool after failing to make an appearance last season. He was beset with injury troubles, suffering a damaged hamstring which meant he didn’t play at all last season.

He doesn’t entirely fit the mould of an MA signing; maybe he has a point to prove, but why would we need to wait until next week to announce someone like Clayton? There’s no immediate links either, but he is a striker and a free agent so I’ve stuck him on the list.

  1. Speculate away, Gary. As ever, a read as fascinating as the context is baffling. It feels like David Holdsworth all over again. “He’s got two legs. Sign him.”

  2. Blimey! David Holdsworth. That was desperate patching of holes in a sinking ship by a man of many patches. We are now recruiting for a voyage of discovery. Anyway, nice to hear from you Mike!
