Lewis Montsma

We know Lewis signed a deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2024. That came after his first ACL (his first with us, his second overall), but since then, he has returned and suffered another ACL injury. I’m afraid that places a big question mark over his future here.

We shouldn’t write him off. Look at Jodie Jones, a player who has thrice been struck down with an ACL injury and who is currently one of the best players in League Two. However, my fear is that there’s no clear path back for Lewis, no guarantee of his ability to bounce back a third time. If we were a bigger club with a better budget, we might be able to afford to take a punt, but I fear that isn’t the case.

I fear that we may already have seen the last of Lewis in a Lincoln shirt, which is a crying shame. My honest shout is I don’t think we’ll offer him a new deal. We might offer him the chance to remain around the club and prove his fitness, and who knows, there might be a reduced deal in there to be had, but for me that’s the best to hope for right now.
