Six City Players Who Could Be Out of Contract: Who Could Be Retained?

TJ Eyoma

One player with whom there is a degree of ambiguity is TJ Eyoma. He signed in August 2021, which means if he penned a three-year deal, he will be out of contract. There is a chance there could be an option on his contract, but the likelihood is that the option will be at the ‘old money’, which, in my opinion, would make it less viable for immediate renewal.

I like TJ. I think he’s more versatile than he’s given credit for, and he’s been a strong performer under Michael Skubala. He has dipped in and out of the side and is definitely suited to playing on the right of a three. I think that poses a possible problem – I think Michael Skubala may be looking at reverting back to a four, and if he is, it could make retaining TJ a lower priority than some of the other players.

That said, it would not surprise me if we do offer a deal, as he’s a good League One player, and if Alex Mitchell goes back, we’ll not be as brimming with centre-backs as we are now. For me, TJ is one to retain, if we can, but perhaps on a different deal.
