Thanks: March 2012
Shall we be honest? We were shit in 2012. Steve Tilson had ended our miserable demise with relegation, then made a cack-handed effort of our BSP start too. He got the boot, Reg Holdsworth came in and was just as popular. It was like swapping chlamydia for thrush.
By March 2012 it had all got a bit too much to take. We’d won one in 14 and were looking destined for complete and utter oblivion. The Blue Square North. Financial ruin. Desolation.
On the afternoon of March 24th Newport visited and a defeat would surely have ended David Holdsworth’s short tenure as manager. A demonstration took place outside the ground and the whole club felt divided and split.
A weak Newport played patsy that day, going down 2-0 thanks to goals from Mark McCammon and John Nutter. That spurred us on to win five of the last nine and avoid the dreaded drop. There was still a long, long way to go, but it felt like a turning point.
Thank god they were so bad.
