Imps Weekly Round Up

As we did last week, here’s a recap on some of the news stories you might have missed this week.

Remember, as this is a recap there’s not likely to be mention of Matt Green I’m afraid. Sorry.

All tickets for the Imps FA Cup clash with Everton sold out in double quick time after going on release to my Imps and Season Ticket holders this weekend.

The Imps have sold out the full allocation and will be taking more fans to Everton than any side since Chelsea in the FA Cup a couple of years ago.

Controversially, and after receiving feedback from the Supporter’s Board, the club voted in favour of retaining the current format of the Checkatrade Trophy for another three years.

In the absence of any viable options, the Supporter’s Board reluctantly advised the club that despite misgivings, the money available from the competition was sufficient to remain in it at this stage. The vote was overwhelming echoed across the country, but with a reluctant sigh rather than a resounding cheer.

The prize money in the trophy is well in excess of that received for the League Cup and clubs losing money on gate receipts are reimbursed too. Whilst it isn’t ideal, there appears to be little other option on the table at this stage.

Imps youngster Jordan Adebayo-Smith has been named in ‘The 11’, a prestigious honour bestowed upon the best young footballers in the country.

The on and off the pitch achievements of 11 young footballers are recognised by League Football Education (LFE) in the naming of ‘The 11’. It acknowledges the football and academic progress of Under-18 players on apprenticeships at EFL clubs.

England Under-20 World Cup winners Ademola Lookman (formerly Charlton Athletic), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (formerly Sheffield United) and Lewis Cook (formerly Leeds United) have all previously been named in ‘The 11’

Colin Murphy became the first inductee into the Hall of Fame, situated in the Legend’s Lounge.

The two-time Imps manager is a regular at the club and is rightly the first to be honoured with his place amongst those players and managers who have shaped the history of our great club.

The Imps Under 16s team won silverware last week, lifting the EFL National Championship in a tense match against Bournemouth.

Having beaten Wigan in the Northern Final a week before, they triumphed 2-0 against the Cherries to become the National Champions.
