No Thanks: Tommy Tynan
Here he is look, all resplendent in his Newport kit. He was part of the European side of 1981, scoring 66 times in 180 Newport appearances, plus he formed a devastating partnership with a young John Aldridge as they were promoted from the fourth division in the same period. Good old Tommy.
He’d scored pretty much everywhere he played, but he thrived in South Wales, and again when he moved to Devon with Plymouth. The one place he did not do well was Lincoln City. He was bought from Sheffield Wednesday for a club record fee, but left after four months in which he played nine times and scored once. That goal came in a 2-2 draw against Oxford and ended up costing us £8,000. We paid £33,000 for his services, accepting £25,000 from Newport when we realised he wasn’t doing it for us.
Yeah, cheers for that.
