3 reasons we should thank Mansfield Town, and 3 reasons we absolutely should not

No Thanks: Adam Smith

Remember Smith? He had two spells at City, the first before his Stags stint when Peter Jackson brought him in on loan. If he was a Jackson signing the likelihood is he wasn’t up to scratch, but his career didn’t go badly after returning to Chesterfield.

Gainsborough Trinity and York City had him next, then the Stags. He played 43 times for them, scoring eight times and enjoying two loan spells at Aldershot as well. After that, David Holdsworth brought him to Sincil Bank where I think he split opinion.

I didn’t rate him one bit, some of the signings around that time were good professionals down on their luck, Tom Miller, Paul Farman, Jake Sheridan and Colin Larkin to name but four. Smith, for me, was a show pony, not convincing one little bit.

He scored one league goal and one FA Cup goal for City before jogging on, doing a tour of the non-league scene. He didn’t take that too well, ending up defrauding TK Maxx out of £22,000 of designer clothing. He was most recently at Matlock Town where former Gainsborough boss Dave Frecklington released him.
