Thank You: Nathan Arnold
Forget for a moment the undercurrent that circulated after Nathan left us, the various people ‘in the know’ who think they understand the complexities of the situation. Right or wrong, that is the point here. What is the point, is 2016/17.
Firstly, Nathan started out at Mansfield, scoring 13 times for them in just over 100 games. One of those goals came against us at Sincil Bank and when he went on to score the goal that sealed Grimsby Town’s promotion as well, it didn’t seem he’d ever be an Imps’ hero. In my eyes, he is.
Not because I know him away from football either, but because in the 2016/17 season, the first six months at least, he was utterly unplayable. He ravaged full backs, scored crucial goals and pushed us towards the promised land of the Football League. His goal against Ipswich is iconic for so many reasons, probably for me the best goal I’ve ever seen at Sincil Bank in terms of quality and magnitude. Many will argue his strike against Gateshead was just as important, if not more.
Not bad for a former Stag, eh? We can certainly thank them for Nathan.

And thanks for Sam Ellis – I know, before your time!
