League One Roundup – Exeter City Player Exits, Plymouth Argyle AFCON Concerns

League One continues to churn out stories that cut across recruitment, leadership and international duty, all arriving quickly as the schedule tightens before December. Here is the Friday evening picture, with four stories shaping the mood across the division.

Exeter Prospect Heads Out After Limited Minutes

Exeter City striker Kieran Wilson has joined Torquay United on loan until 12 January as the Grecians move to secure him the game time they feel he urgently needs.

Wilson, 18, has featured nine times from the bench in League One and played in four cup ties, but Exeter believe a run of starts will accelerate his development. Torquay’s injury crisis made them an ideal destination and Paul Wotton was glowing in his assessment. He said:

“He is an aggressive forward who can play anywhere across the front. He is a willing runner and we desperately need bodies in.”

Gary Caldwell expanded on the rationale behind the loan, explaining that the decision had been mapped out weeks ago due to Wilson’s development curve and the physical demands of senior football. He said:

“We feel he needs more game time. He did really well through pre season and the early part of the season, but like all young players he will have moments when he dips. I feel he is coming out of that now and it is a really good time for him to go and show his undoubted quality.”

Caldwell stressed that this was not a demotion but part of a long term plan to increase Wilson’s readiness for regular League One minutes.
