Did you know that in November 1994, the Imps were, once again, on the wrong side of history?

The Golden Goal rule was something introduced in the 90s that faded in the same way as the Sega Saturn and men with certain haircuts.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t have a place in football history, and within that niche, we suffered. Everyone knows Lincoln City were the first team to be eliminated from the Football League, but did you also know we were the first to be beaten by a Golden Goal?

Not only that, but three days later, we faced the same third-tier side in another cup competition, immediately looking for revenge.

With Huddersfield Town our EFL Trophy opponents next week, we look back at our first meeting in the competition, and our first trip to the cursed McAlpine Stadium.
