I have to say this before every article of this ilk, but this is purely a speculation article to provoke discussion. I do not have inside info, I have not slipped a secret name in here and I do know that a couple of the names are a little out there.
Please, do not start getting angry, I’m aware Matt is still our player and I know that there’s every chance he won’t go. If he does, I’m also favouring Shay McCartan and John Akinde up front, so the new signing might only be a fringe player that underwhelms fans. I don’t intend to get your expectations up with the names I name here, it’s just as I research lots of players and clubs for my FLW work, I come across possibilities.
Besides, who would have had us signing Lee Frecklington or Jason Shackell? Or Neal Eardley for that matter? Just because I called McCartan, Pett and Andrade long before we were linked with them is pure luck.
Anyway, you know the news by now. Matt Green is being heavily linked with Salford City and that leaves us needing a centre forward, arguably a third or fourth choice, but a mobile on who can run the channels and keep the game exciting deep into the dying embers.
With that in mind, I’ve been scouring, speculating and discussing and I’ve come up with four players who might just fit the bill. Remember, this article is designed to provoke response, not nasty comments calling me a dick. Thanks.
The obvious question is do we actually need a like for like replacement for Matt Green? There are several variations but the key attribute must be the potential to play at Div 1 Level or else what is the point other than a stop gap till the summer.
