Carlisle’s leading scorer is set to leave Brunton Park this winter and return to Fleetwood. It’s been suggested it is in order to fight for a first team place, but the likelihood is Joey Barton wants to cash in whilst his stock is high.
We saw first hand the damage he can do, his pace is electric and he might be a good shout to play behind John Akinde if we can’t hold on to McCartan. Even if we do keep Shay, the direct running Nadeson offers would be hugely beneficial to us.
Could he be tempted to Sincil Bank? I couldn’t see why not. We’re doing well and if there’s a personality fit there, then surely he would be a great signing. he’d cost us the best part of whatever we got for Matt Green, maybe even a few grand more, but to capture him would show serious ambition.
The obvious question is do we actually need a like for like replacement for Matt Green? There are several variations but the key attribute must be the potential to play at Div 1 Level or else what is the point other than a stop gap till the summer.
