Cleverley Targets Trophy Momentum for Struggling Plymouth Argyle
Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley believes the Vertu Trophy round of 32 tie against Leyton Orient can help inject belief into a difficult campaign.
Argyle sit 23rd in League One after a 3-0 defeat to Northampton, but the match in east London offers minutes for returning players such as Julio Pleguezuelo and a possible full debut for Joe Ralls. Leading scorer Lorent Tolaj is suspended domestically yet available for the cup. Cleverley has set two clear objectives for the remainder of the season.
“It is a competition that I feel it is important we are successful in. Success at the start of May would be to have a really strong run in the Vertu and to finish mid-table in League One. The game will be treated as a serious one.”
Orient topped their group with a perfect record and represent a tough draw, but Cleverley believes the fixture can mark an upward shift in momentum.
