Nolan Peeved by Comments After Cobblers Outplay Cardiff
Kevin Nolan expressed clear frustration after Northampton Town’s defeat to Cardiff, with the Cobblers boss calling for greater respect toward his team following comments made about their style of play.
Cardiff captain Calum Chambers described Northampton as the most direct team in the league, a tag that Nolan believes overlooks the broader qualities in their performances. His side became the first team in League One this season to register more possession and more passes than Cardiff, and Nolan felt that deserved proper recognition.
“I’m still disappointed about Saturday because we deserved something from the game. We’re the first team this season to have more possession than Cardiff and sometimes you have to give credit to us because we outplayed them,”
Nolan said on Tuesday. He pointed to an early chance for Jack Perkins and the clinical nature of Cardiff’s first attack as key moments that underlined the fine margins. He also admitted he sometimes judges his own players harshly due to high expectations shaped by budget limitations and the scale of the task.
“That’s why I do get a bit peeved sometimes when people talk about systems and style of play. You can’t take away from what we’re trying to achieve here,” he added, reinforcing his message that Northampton’s progress warrants more credit.
