Peterborough United: MacAnthony details swift move for Luke Williams

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony says appointing Luke Williams fulfilled a long-held ambition and followed a rapid process after Darren Ferguson’s exit. Williams topped a three man shortlist, with Posh mindful of other interest.

“I knew Luke had been on the short list at Luton Town and I was wary of Reading sacking their manager… I knew Luke was not going to be out of work for long which pushed me to move.”

MacAnthony cited admiration dating back seven years to Williams’ Swindon side and his coaching work alongside Russell Martin, plus extensive scouting during his Notts County tenure.

“I’ve been a fan of his for years… I feel we have appointed the right person now and I will give him the freedom to do his thing.”

That extends to the possible recall of Chris Conn-Clarke. MacAnthony suggested the attacker, who is shining for Carlisle, could come back to London Road if the new man wants him. However, after a recent tweet aimed at his critics, Conn-Clarke was told to keep his head down by the Posh chairman.
