Liam Bridcutt came through Chelsea’s youth ranks but made his senior impact elsewhere, learning his trade via loans with Yeovil Town, Watford and Stockport County. His career took off at Brighton & Hove Albion, where his assured defensive midfield play under Gus Poyet helped secure the League One title in 2010–11. His performances earned him consecutive Player of the Year awards and a move to Premier League Sunderland in January 2014.

At Sunderland, he was reunited with Poyet, featuring in the top flight before moving to Leeds United. Initially on loan, he impressed enough to make the switch permanent and captained the side briefly, though injuries curtailed his influence. Nottingham Forest secured his services in 2017, where he played sporadically before loans at Bolton Wanderers and Lincoln City.

Bridcutt joined Lincoln permanently in August 2020, quickly being named captain and becoming an experienced anchor in the centre of midfield. Across loan and permanent spells he made 51 appearances, scoring once, and was central to Michael Appleton’s side during their push towards the League One play-offs in 2021.

After leaving Lincoln following a second season blighted by injury, he had a short spell with Blackpool before retiring in 2024. Internationally, Bridcutt was capped twice by Scotland between 2013 and 2016, qualifying through his Edinburgh-born grandfather. Following retirement, he moved into coaching, joining Gateshead as assistant manager in October 2024.
