3. Dan Nlundulu

Coming from the Premier League with Southampton, Nlundulu was the big striker we needed at the time. His attributes suited our needs: strong, quick, technical, but ineffective. He scored once in 21 appearances, and even that was in an uncharacteristically bright showing against Wigan.
Mostly, he looked ill-suited to Michael Appleton’s system. Suggestions of tactical discontent followed; he wasn’t used to playing the role we wanted, and he was sent back early. His next stops (Cheltenham, Bolton) yielded just seven goals in two years. A classic case of hype, hindered development and poor fit.
