That’s right – a loss is one of my favourite Michael Skubala moments. Our charge to the top six was nothing short of amazing, and when we went into the final game, we held all the cards. All we had to do was beat champions Portsmouth. No pressure.
Portsmouth were the best side in the division, not just because they finished top, but everything about them. In the end, we fell short, but after their second goal went in, the ground erupted into spontaneous applause, everyone clapping our valiant efforts to make the top six. Writing it now gives me goosebumps, and it might just be the best moment of the past 12 months for me. Sometimes, recognition of achievement is only measured in goals and points in the EFL, but for a moment that afternoon, Lincoln City fans showed a much deeper appreciation of the team.
