Four players arrived in January 2021; Regan Poole, Cohen Bramall, Morgan Rogers and Max Sanders. I can’t label any of those as misses. At the time, there was an uproar that we’d had a poor window, but that’s hindsight for you – it adds clarity.

I’ve picked Poole as the hit simply because he was Player of the Season last campaign and is likely to be playing Championship football beyond this season. He was a great capture (which I did say at the time) and a player who will be remembered as fondly as Mark Bailey and Neal Eardley by supporters.

That’s not to say the others were misses, not at all. Cohen netted us a six-figure sum, so even if he never really impacted the first team regularly, he was a hit in terms of the recruitment model. Morgan Rogers got lumped in with Brennan Johnson as an example of everything good about our recruitment, and he bagged some great goals and was a hit.

Finally, Max Sanders is a personal favourite of mine anyway, and this season he’s proving his acquisition was spot on as well. In fact, you can only call a miss with hindsight – an out-and-out striker might have been nice given that Tom got injured and Callum Morton never did it for us, but that’s a harsh assessment.
