2017/18
Hit – Tom Pett
Miss – James Wilson
Window Rating – 6/10

We start by going back to our first January window back in the league. It was a busy one; no fewer than seven players arrived, three permanently (Wilson, Pett and Freck) and four on loan (Ryan Allsopp, Jordan Williams, Scott Wharton and Danny Rowe).
All in, it seemed like a good window at the time. James Wilson was the player who excited me the most, having been playing League One football before coming to City. I think he was seen as a successor for the departing Sean Raggett, and a goal at Barnet on his debut whetted appetites. Sadly, he got injured away at Cambridge and never recovered, not in terms of his Imps chances. Scott Wharton’s form didn’t help – the Blackburn man impressed when given a chance.

It could be argued Ryan Allsopp helped us to Wembley, making his debut in the semi-final against Chelsea kids, but I’ve gone for Tom Pett as the biggest hit. He really struggled for the first six months, only coming alive in the final game against Yeovil. A year later, he was holding the League Two title aloft, having played an integral part in our success. He never got a chance under Michael Appleton but is a League One regular now at Port Vale.
