Team of the Decade – Part Two (Midfield & Attack)

Central Midfield – Alan Power

I couldn’t possibly pick another player here. Maybe, just maybe someone like Joe Morrell would get in on ability alone, but in a Team of the Decade, it seems only fair to include a player who featured more than any other through that decade.

Alan Power often cut a lonely figure in the side, looking lost amongst collections of uninterested teammates. He got a couple of red cards from what looked to me to be frustration as his fight wasn’t matched by the players meant to be supporting him. He was another who worked hard, but he was a ‘footballer’ too, he could read a game and when complemented with the right sort of players, he thrived.

I felt he was a bit hard done by when Danny and Nicky came in. Any new manager tends to make a statement, intentional or not, and Power was the statement they made. He dropped out of the side but showed great character and resilience to get back in and become a key part of our title-winning season of 2016/17.

The fact he went on to play in Scotland’s top flight and help Kilmarnock into the Europa League suggests to me he could have done a job for us in League Two, but why stick around when you’re clearly no longer the only one who cares and find yourself on the periphery.

No, Alan Power went on to try to get bigger games against better opposition, but time will remember him as a top player for Lincoln City.

  1. One player that is always massively over looked is Adrian Pătulea he only scored about 17 goals I think 12 in the league but the manager at the time Peter Jackson normally played him as a sub for 20-30 minutes.
Adrian scored more goals per minute on the pitch than any other player of all time for Lincoln.

But he may not be classed as this decade as it was 2009.

Obviously you would have to include Yeo but not sure if the two would be suited to play together in this formation.
