The Thank You Article: Mansfield Town

After missing out on the first list I did, Lee had to make this one. He came back to us from Mansfield and it is that which I thank them for.

He first caught the eye whilst playing for county rivals Boston United after starting out at Ipswich as a youth. His impressive performances convinced a promotion chasing Keith Alexander to spend an ‘undisclosed amount’ to bring him to Sincil Bank.

Although primarily a right back Lee found himself employed all across the defence, often in the left back position. Whilst employed out of position he still put in committed and full-bloodied performances. He continued to do the same after Keith left, and looked perhaps his most settled whilst playing under Peter Jackson.

All good things must come to an end and eventually Lee opted to sign for Colchester, which represented a climb up the football ladder for him. He always committed himself to City and left having made over 170 outings in an Imps shirt.

His winding career took him back to Mansfield where he featured against us a few times, but in May 2015 he came back home. He spent a season and a half back with us before the injury that effectively ended his professional career, but he was an integral part of the Chris Moyses side of 2015/16, the embryonic form of the squad that swept all aside a season later.

Top bloke is Lee. Cheers Mansfield.
