No Thanks: Derek Asamoah

I know this is going to divide fans. There will be some who are with me when I saw Asamoah was overrated and not someone to be thankful for, others will disagree firmly with me.
As far as I’m concerned, Mansfield sold us a 1 litre Fiesta with pepperpot alloys and an XR2 body kit on. It looked the business but when all said and done, there was nothing there but appearances.
Asamoah signed for the Imps after falling out with then Mansfield Town boss Carlton Palmer. He was lightning quick and showed lots of promise but struggled badly finding the back of the net.
He scored twice for City, both goals came at Sincil Bank, one in a 2-1 win over Oxford and another in a 3-1 win against Chester.
His performance in that game prompted Chester to take him on loan where he scored eight times in 17 matches. Since then he’s played in a couple of different countries and represented Ghana four times, scoring once.
Asamoah always threatened to be a potent force in League Two for City, but he was found wanting when we needed him most. He was quick, one of the quickest players I’ve ever seen for Lincoln.
He did only seem to have pace in his locker though, and a lack of end product contributed to his abysmally low goal count.
No Roy Chapman?
