Benson is a left-footed central midfielder, more in the Tom Pett mould than that of Michael O’Connor. He achieved worldwide fame for a stunning volley he grabbed in Europe against Legia Warsaw a couple of years ago, plus he added some convincing performances after that as the Lilywhites embarked on a remarkable Europa League run.

In his four-year stay at Oriel Park, he’s helped them to win two league titles, one FAI Cup and one EA Sports Cup

There’s a snag of course, he recently signed a new one-year deal with Dundalk, so it is unlikely that Danny will sign him, even if he was one being watched. That said, a new deal is not a stumbling block to a move, it would just mean a fee.
