Doncaster’s Mystery Bench Man Revealed as Derby Midfielder

Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the identity of the mystery man spotted behind their bench during the win over Peterborough United, revealing him as Derby County midfielder Darren Robinson.

Supporters noticed an unfamiliar face in a full Rovers tracksuit, seated next to the injured Toyosi Olusanya. Robinson, 20, is under contract with Derby until next summer but has joined Doncaster in training after returning from an 11-match loan at St Patrick’s Athletic.

Discussing his recent development move, Robinson explained earlier in the year:

“I left home at sixteen to join Derby, so I am in my fifth season now. I need senior games and felt the League of Ireland was a great opportunity for me.”

Robinson has represented Northern Ireland at under 21 level and featured in Premier League 2 for Derby. Doncaster have not announced whether the current arrangement points toward a January move, but his presence comes at a time when Grant McCann’s side are trying to reshape midfield options while preparing for back-to-back ties against Chesterfield.
