Fresh Argyle injury blows as Benarous hobbles off at Port Vale
Plymouth Argyle’s injury issues deepened during their one-nil win at Port Vale, with head coach Tom Cleverley outlining the latest setbacks to Plymouth Live.
Substitute Ayman Benarous, making his return from a knee problem, was introduced on 69 minutes for Brendan Galloway, only to hobble off late on with a suspected hamstring injury.
Cleverley confirmed that striker Bim Pepple missed the game with a calf strain and that midfielder Bradley Ibrahim has suffered a long term ankle injury picked up in training. The Argyle boss admitted the constant setbacks were hard to take.
“It does not ever get any easier,” he said. “All I can say is we are doing absolutely everything we can as a staff to make sure we reduce these injuries as well as keeping the guys fit enough to perform.”
Despite the blow for Benarous, there were positives in Burslem. Club captain Joe Edwards made his comeback from a calf problem as a late substitute, while new signing Joe Ralls debuted off the bench.
Cleverley added that Edwards and Ralls should be in contention to start against Northampton Town next weekend, with Xavier Amaechi and Julio Pleguezuelo also close to returns as Argyle try to navigate a packed League One schedule.
