‘Play like Jack Moylan’ – Michael Skubala Pinpoints Fresh Lincoln City Approach

City fell to a 3-2 defeat at Wycombe this weekend, a harsh end to a game which looked to be going the other way.

With us 2-0 down at half time, Skubala introduced Jack Moylan to give City some fresh impetus, and he immediately added drive and direction to our play.

Moylan has been out injured, returning against Barnsley in the EFL Trophy, and he turned in a cracking display, which saw him voted our Man of the Match on Instagram.

Our Head Coach agreed, calling the former Shelbourne attacker brave.

“He was fantastic,” he said post-match. “Jack has got huge mentality, brave mentality. He wants to get on the ball and drive us forward. I love his energy and his drive. He wants to play forward whenever he can. He never wants to play backwards.”

Moylan has been out since we beat Harrogate in the EFL Cup, and is currently on a pathway back to the first team, but after yesterday’s outing, he has got to be in contention for a regular starting place.

“”He is building up his minutes, so he could not have played too long, but we got him on earlier than we probably wanted to. Fair play to him. I thought he really affected the game. That is what you need. You need the squad to go and affect the game.”

Jack’s impact, along with that of Reeco Hackett, was a driver before two more subs, Freddie Draper and Justin Obikwu, got us back in the game. Michael said that he needs players to make an impact, but not just from the bench.

“”They have to make an impact. They have to make an impact off the bench, and they have to make an impact when they start as well. That is the challenge. Sometimes it is playing like that when it is 0-0. Making sure you keep playing like that when it is 2-2.”

To outline his point, Michael referred once again to fan favourite Moylan.

“”Play like Jack Moylan at 0-0. That is what we want to be. I think it is something we have to work on if we are going to keep taking points off people.”

Moylan joined City a little under two years ago, coming in the winter window of 2023. He has ten goals and three assists across his Imps career, with 20 league starts, but 59 outings across all competitions, including appearances from the bench.
