Are We Really Always Rubbish At Christmas?

A decent Christmas from Keith, but only because of a New Year double. We beat Bury 1-0 on New Year’s Day and did Chester by the same score on the 3rd.

Before that, we drew 0-0 with Grimsby Town. The 1-0 defeat to Wycombe on the 18th is a whole week before Christmas, so too early to count.

2003/04 – 2.3 PPG (season average 1.61)

Did Keith have a Midas touch at Christmas? Two wins and a draw in 2003 certainly suggested so. We beat Boston (1-0) and Bury (2-1) either side of a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United.

2002/03 – 2 PPG (season average 1.52)

I’ll take this! Keith’s sides usually had a bad November, but Christmas was great in 2002. We beat Macclesfield and Swansea City 1-0, and drew with York City and Boston United 1-1. Eight points from four games kept us in the play-off hunt

2001/02 – 1.5 PPG (season average 1)

2001 could be described as average, but losing 5-0 at Orient on the final game before the festivities certainly wasn’t average; it was terrible. We did beat Scunthorpe 3-2 on the 29th, restoring a bit of pride, but it still wasn’t a great Christmas period.

2000/01 – 0.5 PPG (season average 1.11)

Some Christmas breaks can be disrupted by weather, and the year 2000 was one of those. We played twice, December 23rd and December 26th, losing 3-0 against Darlington and drawing 1-1 with Scunthorpe.
