Are We Really Always Rubbish At Christmas?

Okay, we only played once, but you have to hand it to Chris Sutton, he did Christmas well! I haven’t counted the cup game against Bolton on January 2nd, so the only game within the time frame was our 2-1 win against Chesterfield, when Jack ‘Lad’ Lester missed a penalty.

That was our only league game between December 12th (lost 3-1 to Rochdale) and January 16th (beat Barnet 2-1).

Another bad one for Jacko. This time, we started well with a 1-0 win on December 20th against Notts County.

Boxing Day brought a 0-0 draw with Bradford City, almost as uninspiring as our 3-2 defeat against Luton Town on 28th December.

What a difference a year makes. Peter Jackson was in situ, but the results were poor in 2007.

Darlington (4-0), Bradford City (2-1) and Grimsby (1-0) all beat us, before we salvaged a point against Bury on New Year’s Day thanks to Louis Dodds.

Schoey’s collapse hadn’t quite started, and Christmas 2006 was one to cheer. Amoo set Christmas on fire on the 23rd with a brace at Peterborough, before Stallard and Hughes downed Boston on Boxing Day. Hughes then gave us a 1-0 win against Wycombe on 30th, before defeat at Macclesfield on January 2nd.

We wo one of the next five.

Keith’s last Christmas in charge of the Imps was his worst. We took three points from four games in a season where we were pushed into the play-offs, rather than climbing in.

We drew 0-0 with Boston on Boxing Day, before Grimsby stuffed us like a turkey, 3-0. A 2-2 New Year’s Eve draw with Darlington and 0-0 January 2nd draw against Mansfield saw us stumble into 2006.
