McCann wants Doncaster to shake off “fear factor”

Grant McCann says Doncaster need to be braver when they go in front, as they prepare for their FA Cup trip to Crewe Alexandra.

McCann was encouraged by long spells of the performance in the draw with Reading, but admitted his side did not push on after taking the lead. He has challenged the group to be aggressive rather than protecting what they have, and says that mentality shift has been a focus in training this week.

McCann also spoke about restoring confidence, describing it as removing a “fear factor” that creeps in when Rovers are ahead. He believes that mindset, rather than shape or personnel, is the main barrier to turning draws into wins.

“We want to get back to being aggressive once we go ahead, not worrying about conceding an equaliser,” he said. “It’s about belief. We’ve worked on that, and we’ll take it into Crewe.”
