Shay McCartan

I promise this isn’t just a title-winning article, but it struck me that we did have a few who really deserve more of a mention. Shay McCartan is another.
Here’s a thing – he scored one goal fewer from open play than leading scorer John Akinde, and his return in all competitions matches that of Harry Anderson, a deserved darling of the era. McCartan could play centrally, as he often did, but also on the left or right, and even as a striker.
He scored some crackers, including the goal against Cheltenham that secured promotion, and our 6,500th goal in an away game at Crawley (it was our second of the game, 6500th in history, just in case you’re confused).
