‘Not Given a Chance’ – What Happened To The Players Fans Felt Didn’t Get a Go?

Ben Coker – 0 minutes

I remember Ben saying in an interview he’d settled ‘like snow’ at Lincoln. It only took the arrival of a sunny Michael Appleton to melt Coker’s chances away. Now, he is a player who spent a lot of his time injured, but in those final few months of the 2019/20 season, we did struggle a little at left back.

Since us, Coker has played exclusively in League Two (Stevenage) and the National League (Solihull Moors and Barnet), suggesting that while he was rightly not included for us, there was a half-decent player in there.

Zach was probably one of the very first project players we signed. He came from Waterford and had certain qualities – mainly a hell of a lot of pace. He looked like a big player, though, not least for winning Player of the Round in the EFL Trophy twice. Surely, league minutes would follow?

Nope, and for a short while, it looked like a bad decision when he left. He’d had a poor loan spell at Bolton, starting just twice, but AIK offered European football, and he seemed to fit in. He soon drifted, and after 51 matches (30 starts), he wound up in League Two with Swindon, on loan. That didn’t pan out, and now he’s back in Ireland.
