Ten Worst Lincoln City Loan Signings 2000–2011

8. Karl Bermingham – 2 apps, 0 goals

The Manchester City youngster arrived in 2005 with a decent reputation, but that promise quickly evaporated. Just two appearances later, Bermingham was on his way back with supporters barely remembering his short stint at the Bank.

There are mitigating circumstances here – he joined a side with Francis Green (eight goals), Simon Yeo (21 goals) and Gary Taylor-Fletcher (11 goals) in it, and a team pushing towards a play-off spot, which we ultimately achieved. He also arrived as cover for Marcus Richardson, a player sent out on loan with Ciaran Toner after the dust-up that I still believe cost us promotion.

7. Guy Ipoua – 6 apps, 0 goals

I was so excited when Ipoua signed in 2005, at a similar time to Bermingham. If the youngster was a roll of the dice, Ipoua felt like a sure shot. A powerful forward who had previously played for Scunthorpe and Gillingham, Ipoua never looked fit or focused, despite having hit 18 goals for Scunthorpe a couple of years earlier.

He started only a handful of games and was largely anonymous in those, failing to impress in any measurable way. He appeared six times from the bench and didn’t score, while Yeo bagged four in the same six matches.
