EFL-Era Winter Signings: Is James Collins The Best We’ve Made?

Finally, we move on to James Collins. He’s in the Marquis mould — a player who has been prolific almost everywhere he’s been prior to coming here. The difference is he’s utter class. He’s a leader on the field, driving standards and impacting everyone around him. He works hard, and he’s a natural finisher. With ten goals in 18, he’s got to double figures one game quicker than Joe Taylor, and come the summer, we won’t be sweating over whether he’s here or not. He is; he’s ours, and I think he’s a top player.

Now, his goals have also earned us points directly. Wigan (1-1) and Charlton (2-2) were both points dug out as a result of his goals. He got the winner against Reading, and his two goals against Bolton turned a draw into a win. That’s seven points — the same as Joe Taylor — with two games to go.

The two are neck and neck, apart from the fact that we own Collins.
