On This Day: Hooligans, Sponsors, Trialists and Transfers

1992

It’s not always about the players – 34 years ago, the Imps agreed a deal which saw our most prolific shirt sponsor join the club.

It’s a sad state of affairs that I’ve used old copies of the Echo to research this, and they were once splashed across the front of the shirt, for many seasons. They replaced Flindalls in 1992, taking the Imps into the Premier League era.

They remained on the shirts until the 1997/98 season, when they were replaced by Alstom. They were sponsors for five seasons, before rebranding as Siemens.

Tony Lormor was clearly delighted, even if it appeared the club hadn’t had enough time to print a shirt up.
